Not too tight and not too loose. A correct grip is when you see two or three knuckles of your hand. 

 

If you do see those two or three knuckles, then you are doing it right.

 

If you do not, then you have to make sure that you move your hands and not the club. There is a difference to that.


Making your legs flexible allows your hips to fully turn on your follow through. The hips are your main source of power and not the hand.


In bringing the swing back, it is important that you straighten your hands.

 

A straight hand maintains a constant distance between the club head and the hands.

 

If your arms are bent before the backswing, you will have to change it before you hit the ball.

 

The result could be a mishit of the ball. You definitely do not want that.


When your hands reach the waist level, turn your torso and shoulders until you are at the top of the backswing. 

 

The result would be that enough energy is produced in order to have the right impact.  Many players find it difficult to turn their hips.

 

To overcome this, do some exercises on your hips, legs and shoulders I order to make them more flexible.

 
The next backswing tip is to know where your “top” is. Your top depends on how high or how low you can swing.

 

Some players swing way past their top parallel while others can’t even reach the top.

 

The secret is you should swing as high as you can because the higher the backswing, the greater the speed of when it comes down.


The last tip is to avoid jerking the club especially in the downswing.  Make your motions smooth and use your hips, not your hands, as the source of your power.


The initial phase of the swing is the most important stage as this is the basis of all the movements that follow.


If you notice in your game that you are missing something, take a look at your backswing if there is something amiss to it.
